This dog was abandoned, hit by a car, struck on the head with a hammer, and buried alive. But Theia, the one-year-old bulldog mix, was able to rise above it.
According to KHQ, Theia was a well-known stray in her Moses Lake, Washington community, often fed by local farmers. After she was hit by a car, one of the farm hands tried to “put her out of her misery.” Ryann Simmons told KHQ:

“She was hit in the head with a hammer and then buried.”

Miraculously, a dirt-covered Theia wobbled up to a nearby farmhouse several days later.

She was taken to the veterinarian school at Washington State University and treated for a dislocated jaw, leg injuries, and a caved-in sinus cavity. Sara Mellado, the Moses Lake resident who took Theia in after the accident, explains:

“From what I’ve been able to piece together from talking to him and other people who had contact with Theia, her injuries to the sinus cavity were caused by hammer blows to her head… I’m still horrified by the carelessness of the act.”

Although, after hearing her story, Theia was awarded $700 from the Good Samaritan Fund, she will have to endure a costly surgery to repair her sinus cavity. In order to help pay for the medical costs, Mellado set up a GoFundMe page.

On the page, Mellado writes:

“I am now willing to do whatever it takes to raise the money and help her receive the proper medical attention needed and make sure she gets placed in a family where this will never happen to her again!”

Thus far, over $14,000 has been raised on Theia’s behalf.

“I think it’s awesome how everyone is coming together… Trying to save a dog that was pretty much abandoned and left for dead,” said Simmons. “Like you can see she’s full of life.” Despite her injuries, Theia appears to be a happy and playful young pup.

“Considering everything that she’s been through, she’s incredibly gentle and loving. She’s a true miracle dog and she deserves a good life,” Mellado said. That’s one inspiring little bulldog puppy.
