When parents drop their children off at daycare, they expect (and pay for) their children to be safe and in excellent hands. The safety of children is of the utmost importance, which is why obtaining a state child care license is such an involved process. There are rules and regulations dealing with everything from how many children you can look after to what kind of environment you place them in. According to Child Care Aware, eleven million children younger than the age of five are in some form of child care in the United States, and there are just over two million workers who are responsible for those children – in whom parents all over the country put their trust.
At Kids Stop and Play Daycare in Pasco County, Florida, camera footage revealed a shocking incident that took place in the play room. A brief video shows 49-year-old Linda Klem kicking a sleeping toddler on more than one occasion. After the security footage was released, Klem was arrested and charged with child abuse, though the worker denies kicking the child and had no explanation for what the camera caught. We would like to warn viewers that the video is a bit disturbing, and may not sit well with you. Fortunately, the toddler who was kicked suffered no serious injuries. Regardless, Klem, who worked at the daycare for four years, should be reprimanded and should never be allowed to work with children.
